The American Coordinating Committee for Equality in Sport and Society (ACCESS), founded in 1976 by Richard Lapchick, promoted the international sports boycott of apartheid South Africa. In 1978 it led a boycott of the Davis Cup tennis match between South Africa and the U.S. and in 1981 coordinated protests against the U.S. tour of the all-white South African rugby team. The collection includes ACCESS correspondence, releases, and reports, and other material on the apartheid sports boycott movement, particularly during the period 1976 to 1982, and covering the U.S., U.K., New Zealand, Nigeria and other countries, but mainly on the U.S. and on sports such as rugby, tennis, and golf. Correspondents include the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa, U.S. Tennis Association, SAN-ROC, HART (Halt All Racist Tours Movement), Stop the Apartheid Rugby Tour (SART), SACOS, Coalition for Human Rights in South Africa, Richard Lapchick, John Dommisse, Dennis Brutus, Abraham Ordia, Ambassador Harriman, Margaret Thatcher, Trevor Richards and M.N.
